"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is someone absolutely new."

HELPING MOTHERS

Our Why

Fourth Phase is a social-impact maternal wellness brand created to help mothers globally during their Fourth Trimester. Every purchase empowers new mothers to put their wellbeing front and center, and allows us to donate to charitable partners focused on reducing the maternal health crisis in the U.S. and in Sub-Saharan Africa.

UNITED STATES

A 2021 report from the CDC showed the U.S ranks 1st amongst developed countries in maternal mortality rates, with underserved communities more than three to 10x more likely to die during the Fourth Trimester. Nearly all of these maternal deaths in the U.S. are preventable. We launched Fourth Phase and work with charitable partners to address this need.

This accounts for 66% of pregnancy and childbirth-related deaths worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia accounted for around 87% of the estimated global maternal deaths in 2020. Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounted for around 70% of maternal deaths, while Southern Asia accounted for around 16%. Nearly all of these deaths are preventable when mothers have access to the products and education to sustain their well-being.
